WayzataThe Luce Line loops through the northern edge of Wayzata just north of Highway 12 for approximately 1 mile. The downtown area lies on the north shore of Lake Minnetonka, less than one-half mile from the trail, but busy Highway 12 is a barrier between the trail and most of Wayzata. An elevated bicycle/pedestrian crossing of Hwy. 12 is located at the intersection of the trail and Fairhill Road. Other streets intersecting the trail that cross over Hwy. 12 are Hwy. 101 (Central Avenue), Ferndale Road, and Wayzata Boulevard. Wayzata was incorporated in 1883, and was originally part of Minnetonka Township. It covers about three square miles on the north and east shore of Lake Minnetonka. It offers retail services and lakeside restaurant opportunities for trail users. Wayzata (population 3820 on the
1990 census) is primarily a residential suburb, with services
and businesses found along the Highway 12 corridor and along
downtown Lake Street.
